Matt Horton is a working equity partner with Azimuth with over 20+ years of experience in commercial and investing expertise in new energy technologies. Matt is currently Chief Executive Officer at Voltera – a leading energy transition company that acquires, builds, owns, and operates strategically located, fit-for-purpose charging facilities. 

Prior to Voltera, Matt held the role of Executive Vice President of Energy and Charging Solutions at Rivian. His responsibilities include growing fleet infrastructure and charging network businesses as well as its energy storage activities. In addition to his Rivian experience, Matt also held the role of Chief Commercial Officer at Proterra, the leading player in the North American battery-electric bus market. While at Proterra, he managed the company’s product development and marketing activities, and held responsibility for the company’s sales effort across the transit vehicle, powertrain and energy services businesses, generating approximately $1B in total sales.

Matt has significant experience in raising capital in the clean energy and environmental sectors. Prior to Proterra, Matt completed several investments at both Garage and @Ventures respectively before joining Propel Fuels as Chief Executive Officer, where he led the company through five years of strong growth, doubling revenue every year during his tenure, and landing the company on the Inc. 500 as one of the fastest growing private companies in America.

When he’s not working on building innovative companies, Matt enjoys spending time with his family exploring the mountains, forests and beaches around their home in Pescadero, CA.  Matt is a committed outdoorsman and conservationist, and enjoys most active outdoor sports including backpacking, rock climbing, biking, surfing, and fly fishing as well as a new hobby – climbing giant coastal redwood trees.  He is also an avid reader and has a passion for travel to wild, out-of-the-way places.
