About Us

Successfully Leading on Energy and Infrastructure Development

Azimuth is a term in navigation defined as an angular measurement to align with an object or location.

The world’s early explorers used the North Star along with the Azimuth to lead and navigate new opportunities. At Azimuth, successfully navigating infrastructure development in energy and critical minerals processing is what we do.

About Us

Azimuth Capital Management is a North American private equity firm that has been building forward-thinking energy and infrastructure companies since the turn of the millennium.

Founded by energy operators in 2000 and reaching $5.9 billion of peak assets under management, Azimuth is an experienced private equity investment manager and infrastructure developer focused on energy and critical minerals processing for AI supply chains.

We pride ourselves on our depth of project development and operating experience over full build cycles, which has enabled impactful results across our five funds and co-investment program.

Today, Azimuth’s key areas of focus are critical minerals processing, baseload clean power and storage, and low carbon fuels production, with an emphasis on serving AI supply chains. We target infrastructure development opportunities, primarily in North America, Europe, and Japan.

Azimuth’s offices are strategically positioned across North America’s most dynamic energy and technology hubs in Calgary and the San Francisco Bay Area. This is complemented by senior team presence in Vancouver, Houston, and the Netherlands.

Our History

Azimuth was established in 2000, initially focused on traditional private equity, raising its first fund in resources before widening its mandate across four additional funds to advance progressively into infrastructure development.

Across these funds and an active co-investment program, Azimuth has invested in 38 companies, generating more than $4.0 billion in realizations, including the IPOs of MEG Energy, Cobalt International Energy, and Seven Generations Energy.

Building on that foundation, since 2020, Azimuth has been deploying capital directly into in-house development companies through the Azimuth Development Partners (“ADP”) and ADP AI Supply Chains (“ADP AISC”) platforms.

The ADP and ADP AISC platforms produce a portfolio of infrastructure development initiatives in critical minerals processing, baseload clean power, and low carbon fuels that are now ready for scaled capital partners.

Over our history, we have built lasting relationships with leading capital partners (pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, endowments, and financial institutions), industry partners (entrepreneurs, industrial strategics, EPCs, technology providers, and offtakers), and knowledge partners (researchers, universities, and government agencies) around the world.

Our Vision

Today, Azimuth has formalized its track record of early company creation and derisking with Azimuth Development Partners (“ADP”) and ADP AI Supply Chains (“ADP AISC”), our in-house development platforms that create new ventures based on high-conviction theses aligned with our team’s expertise.

One of our highest conviction theses today is that secure industrial supply chains – from critical minerals processing to power – will form the key bottleneck for AI compute. ADP AISC is building to meet the critical procurement needs of the world’s leading technology companies.

Azimuth team members have directly led more than $75 billion in energy and infrastructure projects across five continents and 17 countries, with that execution depth now focused on AI supply chains including critical minerals processing.

The Azimuth team is strongly positioned to navigate the full project lifecycle, commercial build, and capital journey of new infrastructure build thanks to a robust slate of experience scaling upstream, midstream, and downstream platforms.

Our leadership pairs major-project delivery at companies such as Shell, ExxonMobil, and Phillips 66 with deep private equity and capital-markets experience, plus critical minerals processing expertise, spanning the full arc from engineering and procurement to offtake and exit.

ADP continues to advance low carbon fuels development. Through ADP AISC, the Azimuth team has a portfolio of infrastructure companies in critical minerals processing and baseload clean power, with more new ventures to come.
