Private Equity Associate

Full-Time Calgary (Canada) or Menlo Park (US) Office

Azimuth is seeking a Private Equity Associate to join the Firm and assist in the management of funds focused on accelerating the energy transition. The successful candidate will work directly with members of the senior leadership team gaining an in-depth understanding of the energy sector as well as the financial and operational learnings associated with developing energy companies. The selected candidate must work in either the Calgary or Menlo Park office full-time. Travel between the two offices may be required as needed. 

Job Description

  • In-depth energy industry analysis and detailed financial modeling
  • Generating and evaluating potential investment opportunities
  • Monitoring and supporting the operations of existing portfolio companies
  • Project development tasks, spanning concept formation, thesis generation and preparation for construction readiness. This may include securing permits, approvals, and stakeholder agreements; optimizing economics; and coordinating teams for execution
  • Preparing investment and transaction analysis materials, including presentations and financial models, for investment purposes
  • Communicating with investors and working with portfolio company executive teams
  • Supporting operations and reporting responsibilities of the broader investment platform 

Qualifications

  • A university degree in economics, finance, or engineering
  • 2-4 years of experience preferably in investment banking, private equity, venture capital, management consulting, corporate development, or project development. Other relevant energy or engineering experience will be considered
  • Prior experience in energy, power and utilities, or critical minerals would be considered an asset
  • Advanced presentation preparation and financial modeling skills – strong command of the Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on PowerPoint and Excel
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and critical thinking skills
  • Thrives in a collaborative, entrepreneurial team environment
  • Handles diverse responsibilities and meets deadlines
  • Strong work ethic and motivation
